Assorted Scribblings For those of you who don't know, as of the making of this page (7/20/98) I have just recently acquired for my very own self the most wonderful and terrible of companions, a muse. This is not always as joyful and happy-fun as those lacking such an inspiration may think. My muse is very dark, very insistant, and always comes upon me in the dead of night. Were I alive in the time of the ancient Greeks, I would pay homage to Melpomene, the muse of tragedy with her "lyre of woe"
I hadn't slept a good night's sleep in over a week, but looking upon the work I did in those sleepless hours, I am satisfied that it was worth it. I still don't think it's high art or anything, but it's good practice and slowly improving. You, the readers of my scribblings, can come to your own conclusions and, if you so choose, send me mail at pran AT umich DOT edu with your opinions, (constructive) criticisms, and (oh, hope!) praise. Thanks.
Speculative Fiction, they call it. I even have some books on how to write it. I've done some poetry as well, but I'm not that good at it.
My opus, the novel in the works
Eyes of Darkness Poetry and fragments
- We Few (unfinished poem fragment that came to me on the road, basically doggerel verse)
- Another fragment,
- and another.
- Vampire, added 9/2/98; This one was a semi-finalist in a contest, but didn't snag the $5000 prize. Oh, well. Maybe the next one will.
Maybe someday I'll weave all the little poetry snippets together, or finish one or more of them, but for now my big push is the novel, which has recently split into two. They're still work in progress, and as such constantly changing. Here's hoping they eventually become something worth reading. ;)
