Full transparency is one of this campaign's goals. With this in mind, we will post tidbits from the Michigan Daily as they pertain to this campaign. Additionally, we will post as often as we can our communications with the opposition parties on campus.
Michigan Daily Excepts
11/13/02: Election season brings chalk, talk
Candidate Paul Scott is running independent because he wants to put more focus on the classroom, campaign manager Mike MacVay said.
"We are strapped for manpower, but we are working diligently to get Paul elected," MacVay said.
11/19/02: Local issues pushed by MSA candidates
Independent candidate Paul Scott said his campaign platform gives more attention to classroom issues, like extra help for students taking foreign language classes without having to pay for a tutor and the option of taking the fourth semester of the foreign language requirement in English.
"MSA should be devoting more time to classroom concerns. Some resolutions are meaningless and often divide the campus," Scott said.
11/25/02: Students First sees big wins
Independent candidate Paul Scott said his election is a strong mandate from students on his changing foreign language requirements platform.
"I won as an independent candidate which is pretty rare," Scott said. "MSA is more like the Students First assembly but they have to respect my voice."
E-mail from the Blue Party 11/15/02:
Hey Paul,
Darth and Sarra here. We have not yet met but we are the Blue Party Chairs. First, we would like to commend you on your efforts thus far. Winning an MSA campaign as an independent is quite the uphill battle and requires an incredible amount of committment.
While perusing your campaign web page we noticed what appears to be a very serious oversight. The web page you quoted as the official Blue Party site is nothing more than Matt Nolan's personal web space and does not represent the Blue Party in any thing approaching a serious manner. In fact the "real ultimate power" thing is something of a running online joke. Please check out the original site at Http://www.realultimatepower.net
Please check the official Blue Party site at Http://www.voteblue.com
Also, we would appreciate it if you would update your web site accordingly.
Best of luck this week. We look forward to meeting Alf.

RE: Request for Paul Scott Website Update
Let me allow myself to introduce... myself. My name is Jimmy Chestnut and, as noted above, I am in charge of the external affairs portion of Paul Scott's campaign. I apologize for the candidate himself not being able to respond, but this matter was delegated to my office for further review. We always enjoy hearing from our worthy competitors. I assure you, we on the Elect Paul Scott committee have taken your email seriously.
Now to the matter at hand. After initially reading your email, I was gravely concerned about the validity of those members in our research department. Incompetence is something we heavily frown upon here on the committee to Elect Paul Scott. I was personally prepared to terminate our relationship with those members who quoted the website in question.
However, after interrogating those responsible for submitting the quote for posting on our official webpage, and viewing the website quoted, I have ascertained that there has been no oversight from our end. The website we quoted clearly and unambiguously is entitled: The Official Blue Party Webpage.
As such, the quote extracted from this website was correctly cited as being from the official Blue Party website. The apparent serious oversight on our part that you brought to our attention does not exist from our point of view. If this website in question is in fact "Matt Nolan's personal web space and does not represent the Blue Party in any thing approaching a serious matter," then that is another subject for another time. What remains true is the fact, a fact you did not deny in your initial correspondence, that this is the Official Blue Party Webpage, which is reasonably inferred by the title of said website, as of the time we quoted it, November 4, 2002.
We apologize for any confusion, but it is my honest hope that this email clears
up any friction between our staff and yours. Our Webmaster General will note
your concern on the website at his first available opportunity.
Whether it is my place or not, I would suggest contacting this Matt Nolan and
notifying him of your concerns if you do not feel this is the Official Blue
Party Webpage as the heading so claims.
Again, thank you for your email and good luck at the polls this week.
Vote Paul Scott!

PS ALF said your desire to meet him is a shared one. After all, ALF digs chicks... and as made evident by his appearance at Michigan Stadium today, chicks dig ALF.
