tuesday and thursday, 8:30 - 11:30 AM, A & A room 2216
ARTDES 110 Digital Studio I: 002 Laboratory: class number 29979

BASIC INFORMATION

This class will cover web site design and construction, and the creation of vector and raster graphics de novo for both the web and for print. We will also touch upon scanning and photography of non-digital work for documentation.

By the end of the semester, each student will have a personal web site up and running. Your web site is something that will constantly grow and change as you develop as an artist, functioning as your "public face," a venue for you to present your work, your ideas, interests, news, and contact information.

Possibly the most valuable thing you will learn in this class is that you must learn to teach yourself. With digital technologies contantly evolving, you cannot expect that the technical instruction you are given today will apply directly to the tools you are using when you graduate. Keep your eyes open; ask questions; remain curious- explore, and learn how to find answers for yourself.

Subscribe to class calendar (opens in iCal): when prompted, choose "refresh every 15 minutes."

or on your own domain if you've got one (not expected)

GET YOUR BOOKS!

GOOD TO REMEMBER:

NO GUM CHEWING ALLOWED IN CLASS. NO EXCEPTIONS. FORGIVE ME.

ATTENDANCE

Class starts prompty at 8:30 AM. If, for some reason, I am delayed and haven't arrived by 10:00, you may leave. If you leave before then, you will be counted as absent for that day. If you arrive (as required) at 8:30 and I am not yet there, you have PLENTY to do. This is a lab class: work on your digital projects, ask each other for help or critique. Helping other students reinforces your own knowledge and is a great way to learn.

Policy allows for a plummet of one full grade after 3 unexcused absences! Goodness!

ASSIGNMENTS:

Due on time, of course. Posted on iCal and CTools.

AND DO YOU KNOW

HOW TO TAKE A "SCREEN SHOT?"

Press the "shift," "command" (apple), and "4" keys at the same time. The cursor will change to cross hairs. Click, drag over screen area you want a picture of, and release. You'll find your screen shot image on the desktop ("Picture 1.png," etc.)

-or-

use GRAB. What's that? Find it on your computer.
