Burns’ career in comic began with RAW magazine, to which he contributed stories like “Big Baby” in 1983, “Curse of the Mole Men” in 1986, and “Teen Plague” in 1988. His work exhibits an originally fresh and eccentric style. His flat patches of white and black create crisp, clean lines, which resemble a scratchboard medium. He uses absolutely no mid-tones in any of his work, which creates a bizarre, mysterious undertone to his work. His errie drawing style and horrific stories resemble the style of detective and horror comics from the 40’s.
Burns has also contributed original work to music album art, editorial illustrations for Time magazine, and numerous comic anthologies. Burns’ style remains unchallenged and unique as he continues to draw stylistic inspirations from the past and recreate them into innovative exciting works.
