Flowers, Flowers and more Flowers!
Meanings of different flowers and colors (from Shakespeare):
- Red rose and myrtle = I love you
- Ivy with white and red flowers = marry me
- Forget-me-nots = my true love is yours
- Pansies = you occupy my thoughts
- Violets = I am faithful and loyal
- Mint = great virtue
- Sage = great respect
- White and red roses = unity of purpose
- Pink roses = ours must be a secret love
- Marigolds = I am a jealous lover
- Lavender = I distrust you
- Basil = I hate you
How to cut down the cost:
- Ask your florist to use more "filler" flowers or the garden-variety flowers, such as stock, Queen Anne's lace, snapdragons, baby's breath, mums and carnations. You might want to pick out several types of expensive blooms as highlights (i.e. ossiana roses - big and peach, or different color lilies - also big). These highlights would stand out, while the filler flowers add volume to the arrangements.
Estimated Costs:
- Bridal bouquet = $50-$100 (for a cluster of 2 dozen roses)
- Maid of Honor Bouquet = $20-$50
- Bouttonieres = $5-$7.50
- Corsages = $10-$15
- Table Arrangements/Bouquets = from $10 each for bud vases up to $50 each for formal arrangements
- Garlands = with only greens they begin at $3.50/ft.
- Swags = go to a fabric store. This should not be expensive ($20?)
