Dancing and Music

Specialty Dances:

While there is no one itinerary for all to follow, there are some very traditional dances that are done at most weddings. Keep in mind that there are always variation possibilities! Talk with you DJ, MC, or photographer!

  • Wedding Procession Music Ideas:

  • The Bridal Chorus by Wagner is the traditional "Here comes the Bride." Many think this has outlived its time, however it is great for a bride who does not want such a flamboyant entrance - leaving that style until the end.
  • Sheep May Safely Graze by Bach is a lovely, quiet piece of music with a solo melody accompanied by a lovely rocking pattern. Again, great for a quieter entrance.
  • The St. Anthony Chorale is another quiet entrance which uses one quiet registration for the whole work.
  • Trumpet Tune by Purcell is for a grand entrance which is possibly the second most well known Trumpet entrance. (Make this an even better part of your wedding by hiring a trumpeter to play with the organ.)
  • Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke allows the bride to enter in a grand style, with the congregation humming the tune as well!
  • Prelude from Te Deum by Charpentier is a very beautiful trumpet voluntary. Te Deum is a song of thanks to God, and is unfortunately less well-known of the wedding marches.
  • Wedding Recession Music Ideas:

  • Wedding March by Mendelssohn is the classic march that everyone knows and expects.
  • Toccata from Symphony No. 5 by Widor is for those who really want to annoy their organist! This has got to be one of the hardest works to perform (although it's not that hard to learn). It is a very fast, vibrant, and exciting march for the bride and groom as they leave. You should not expect that the organist at your church can play this - ask first!
  • Marche Triomphale by Karg-Elert is based on the hymn tune "Now thank we all our God" (although it is hard to hear the tune unless you know where to listen). This march provides a grand exit for the couple and is a wonderful piece of music for those who don't want the traditional, but want something as flamboyant.
  • Coronation March by Murrill is another traditional march.
  • Trumpet Tune by Purcell
  • Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke
  • Prelude from Te Deum by Charpentier
