Visual Index searching

Visual Index searching involves scanning groups of schematic-style diagrams or drawings assembled on the basis of a shared characteristic such as title or function. In the completed database, such pages will be generated automatically by search requests. In the meantime, one sample page is available, that which would be generated by a search of the form "title=wrench."

Image Searching

The "gallery" feature allows visual searches of groups of photographs assembled on the basis of a shared characteristic such as title or function. In the completed database, such pages will be generated automatically by search requests. In the meantime, one sample page is available, that which would be generated by a search of the form "title=plane".

Tree Searching

This feature is not yet implemented.

String Searching

A form something like this will be the front end, (probably with alternative 'quick search' and 'MARC search' forms that I have omitted here), but the search engine and search scripts are of course not in place. This is only a mockup.

Fill in this form and submit it with the "submit" button in order to search the catalogue of the Tools and Implements Collection.

Hints:

The maximum length of the search string is 80 characters.
Words beginning with your string will be retrieved unless you place a vertical bar (|) after the string to disable automatic truncation.
You may choose whether the search looks
Anywhere in the field or
Only at the beginning of the field
The former can have some unexpected effects: for example, an unrestricted search for the name "grant|" will retrieve people with Grant as a last name or a first name. Without the final bar, "Grantly" and "Grantchester" will also be retrieved.
