A. Abbreviations

BATCH

A1, A2, etc. : see Hyperbib Batches list.

SOURCE

ADD.......Info derived from MJW's "additional" cards (copies of cards
added to MED Master Bib File), intended for inclusion in
the anticipated "Plan and Bibliography Supplement II."

ASP.......See below under "PSA"

PAB.......Info derived from the MED "Plan and Bibliography."

PBS.......Info derived from 1984 MED "Plan and Bibliography
          Supplement I"

PS........PAB and PBS taken together, without (?) any harmonization.

PSA.......PS and ADD taken together, without any harmonization.

ASP.......Same as PSA, but with duplicate entries removed, obsolete
entries deleted if adequately represented in "use" notes,
and other harmonizations leading to a unitary merged bib.

CONFORMITY

HB........Middle English (hyper)Bibliography; conformity to some
version of the highest level of dtd for the bibliography.

L1........Level One: conformity to a simple dtd for marking up ADD
          info.
L2........Level Two: conformity to a dtd for marking up merged
          PB/ADD info.

FORMAT

AE........Author/Editor binary format

SGM.......SGML text format

B. Filenames

Most filenames follow this pattern, though they are usually shortened for convenience' sake by dropping the "source" level and often the "conformity" level as well: [batch].[source].[conformity].[format]
example: f3.asp.HB2.sgm
means: "bundle 3 of "F"; containing material from Plan & Bib, Suppl., and Add cards merged together; tagged in compliance with the Hyperbib dtd (and processed to step 2); in text-only SGML (i.e., not binary .ae) format." In actual use, "asp" will get dropped from the working files, "2" will get dropped as soon as the basic processing is complete, and "HB" will get replaced with the correction date for files under review or correction, or dropped completely for completed files, so typical filenames will look like this:

File in progress at stage 5: W3.HB5.sgm
Completed file: W3.sgm
Newly corrected file: W3.5July98.sgm

EXAMPLES

Info    Conformity/format/stage              Sample Filename(s):

o PS Batches broken out for processing W3.ps.L2.sgm

o ADD Info typed in from ADD cards W3.add.L1.sgm

o ADD Ditto, filtered to Level 2: W3.add.L2.sgm

o PSA Combo of PS and ADD info by batch W3.psa.L2.sgm
        (threaded, no material deleted)

o ASP Full "merger" treatment of PSA files W3.asp.L2.sgm

o (ASP) Cleaned-up file conforming (or
intended to conform) to HB W3.HB#.sgm
        [# = processing stage]

o (ASP) "Final" version name, by batch W3.sgm

o (ASP) Revisions, by date (renamed with W3.14Aug98.sgm
