How to Perform a CINAHL Search

  1. If the screen reads "c:/spirs>," type in "spirs" and enter.

  2. At the bottom of the CINAHL screen highlight "Find" and press "Enter" or type "F" for "Find."

  3. Type your subject after "Find" and press "Enter" or type "F" for "Find." The subject, "Fatigue" shows 838 journal articles.

  4. Narrow the search by typing "and" between two or more search terms and press "Enter." The combined search terms, "Fatigue and indigestion" show 2 journal articles.

  5. The LRC owns the journals noted in yellow. You may request up to six of the other articles per day by interloan from other libraries.

  6. You may limit your search to certain years by referring to pages 3 and 22 in the white CINAHL Helpsheets notebook.

  7. Shorten your search by highlighting "Show Options" to view a reference. Under "Records to Display," fill in record number selected.

  8. View information on the articles by pressing "F4" . Press "PgDn" to scan.

  9. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor directly on the reference and push "Enter" to select a reference. Yellow asterisks appear on the left.

  10. Print by highlighting "Print," and pressing "Enter." Then highlight "Change Options" on the "Print Options" screen. Under "Fields to Print," typing "All" under "Records to Print" gives you all the marked references. Press "Enter" or "P."

  11. Press "Enter" or "F" to begin another search.
