Overview and Information: About This Site: How to Use This Site

To Find a Web Site Alphabetically | For the Person Browsing By Topic | For the Person Who Wants Just One Link

People often seek information at two different levels. One, tell me everything I need to know; or two, just give me one quick answer. Because we expect people to use the book for both of these types of searching, the links are organized in two ways.

For the person who is working through a topic in depth, the web site has the links arranged by chapter, with all links from that entire chapter arranged alphabetically on that web page. As you work through that chapter, you can find any link which interests you from any section of the chapter, simply by browsing the alphabetical listing on that one page. For the person who just wants one link, but does not want to type it in or work from the CD-ROM, there is a master alphabetical list provided of all the web sites listed in the book. These are arranged alphabetically, not by the URL or web site address, but by the site description as it was given in the book.

To Find a Web Site Alphabetically

In both the chapter organization and the alphabetical organization, you need to understand what part of the listing is being alphabetized. The alphabetical lists are not alphabetizing the web site address (URL), but the entry name and title, just as they appear in the book. For example, for the three URLs listed below: You would not look under 'H' for "http", or under "W" for "www" or under "C" for "cancer" or "cis". For both of these, you would look under "N" for National Cancer Institute, and then continue by the rest of the entry description information.

For the Person Browsing By Topic

  1. Go to website.
  2. Choose "Links by Chapter."
  3. Choose volume and chapter from list.
  4. Look how the entry is listed in the book. It will be alphabetical on the chapter page, in the list exactly as it appears in the book.
  5. Click and go!

For the Person Who Wants Just One Link

  1. Go to website.
  2. Choose "Links Alphabetical."
  3. Choose the first letter
  4. Again, find the entry as it appears in the book alphabetically in the list.
  5. Click and go!
