Memories One of my earliest remembrances was the meeting where a discussion was taking place about changing the name of the section from HSAV to EMTS. I think that discussion took place at the New Orleans meeting. I remember being excited that the focus was moving into the new technology of microcomputers. EMTS became the first MLA section that focused on microcomputers and the changes they could bring to the profession.

Technologies Probably the first hot new topic (before computers) was interactive video. It was innovative because of the way it required the user to become involved with the media, and the way each users experience with the program could be unique.

Advances The internet and the information that is available there. I think that developing and defining our role with respect to the internet and online information in general is clearly our biggest challenge as a profession.

Future I've never been a visionary, but the increased ability to share data and to communicate among teachers, students and colleagues using live video etc should have significant impacts on education.
