Body Spaces

Contact Theatre Foyer/Car Park

October 2000

This Body Spaces installation was located in a thoroughfare - the way into the theatre, and it referenced the car park and its disabled parking spaces outside. A comfortable sofa was placed in this narrow path, and screens and computers on each side showed the Geometries video and invited interactive play.
Fantasy stories about the car park created a swath of white paper on the dark floor, and people rushing by were drawn into the installation - their footsteps activated soundsensors. Through the small windows, one could see a miracle outside in the car park - a screen in the back of a truck, shimmering in the darkness and the rain, showing dancing people in the autumn city. According to one young visitor, the truck became 'the world's largest TV'!
