Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, was my base in New Zealand and I stayed for about a week there. Wellington is not a very big city and definitely not as glittering as Auckland and therefore offers the tranquility of a little town along with all the perks of a capital city. The map on the right points to central Wellington but one can consider the brown area as being Wellington as well. Up north, Petone, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt may be considered as Wellington suburbs and form part of Greater Wellington. The word Hutt comes from the Hutt River that flows into the bay area from up north (follow the blue line on the map from Petone and along Upper Hutt. Below you can see several pictures of the city proper Wellington. On one of the weekends, we made a day trip to Upper Hutt, chiefly to visit some of the film locations for The Lord of The Rings movies. We could see Rivendell, Isengard and the River Anduin.
