Snowshoeing and winter camping in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
This solo trip primarily involved snowshoeing the Chapel loop and area. Total
distance logged was around 17 miles.
The park rangers informed me that a couple of hikers had taken skis only and
had an extremely hard time on a nearby trail. Thus, snowshoes were
highly recommended. Listening to the rangers is a good idea. Over 7 of
the miles were spent breaking fresh snow in 1 to 3+ foot depths and the rangers' advice was spot on.
