OUTREACH EXPERIENCE

From January 2007 to August 2008, I have worked as a Graduate Student Outreach Assistant within the newly established Office of Engineering Outreach and Engagement, (OE) in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, directed by Jill Andrews.  Through inclusive partnerships and multiple means, (OE)2 works to establish and sustain partnerships in the K-12 community to motivate, prepare, educate, and support outstanding, qualified students to enter the engineering field.

My engagement with (OE)2 was as follows:

Office of Engineering Outreach and Engagement - (OE)2
College of Engineering, University of Michigan
Graduate Student Outreach Assistant, (Jan 2007 - Aug 2008)

  • Assisted in the development of K-12 Partnerships between UM CoE and area public school districts that focus primarily on increasing student interest in STEM fields
  • Collaborated in the design and implementation of a pilot partnership with a local K-12 school district - focused on recruitment, training and management of CoE graduate (Teaching Fellows) and undergraduate (tutors, mentors) student participants
  • Received Graduate Research Assistantship funding from (OE)2, Jan 2007 - Aug 2008

Visit the (OE)2 blog and the Teaching Fellows Community Blog to find out more information about our K-12 partnerships and read insights from the Graduate Student Teaching Fellows!
