Dear Classmates,

We know, it's been a while since the Class of '89 grapevine has come to you with stimulating thoughts to stir old memories of your past but we've been so busy collecting information (dirt) on others that we were simply too busy to put it together. We were completely confused which memories were going to be stirred so we put in a CD and let the music move us. It was no accident that the band we listened to was Jamestown, a group led by Kip Theno. Keep your eyes open for tour dates!

Keeping Close to Campus...

The excitement continues on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee. Lou Holtz and the Notre Dame football team were at Culver for a second time this August for their pre-season practice. Perhaps a few more visits to the chapel would have improved their record this season. Construction on campus continues as Culver quickly becomes the most technologically advanced and physically impressive high school in the world. All students are now connected to e-mail and have access to the internet in addition to personal voicemail systems. The new Dicke Administrative Center in the Legion Memorial Building was dedicated on October 4 and now houses the Alumni, President's and College Guidance offices. Perhaps the most stimulating news is that the 'new and improved' sidewalk system will more efficiently connect the buildings in the quadrangle! All joking aside, the campus does look incredible. On a more important note, college placement statistics have improved once again with the graduating class of 1996. The top students continue to be admitted to the nation's top educational institutions.

News From the First Class Ring...

We've recently received a tidal wave of news from our classmates. Returning to school seems to be popular among our classmates: Raj Chopra returned to Northwestern (must have been the football team). Melissa Miller graduated from Valparaiso Law School this spring, and enrolled in a one-year program in International and Comparative Law at Georgetown. Suzanne Michener returned to Kindergarten in Honduras this fall for a two year program (as a teacher we should add). Augusta W. Woods is pursuing a business degree at the University of Tampa after working in the travel industry for two years. Amanda Goff is reportedly at the University of Pennsylvania, and Brad Manuel is at Purdue University. LeAnn Judd is studying Slavic languages at the University of Virginia (there must be a secretly large Slavic population in Virginia!) and Cary Morrison is at the Court Reporting Institute in San Diego. A couple of our classmates have gotten the jump on us and have completed school: Kathryn Norris graduated from the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul and Ruben Pinero who completed law school in 1994. After finishing UCLA Law School, Michelle Castro spent two months traveling around the world before settling in San Francisco.

Class of 1989 as Parents???

You'd better believe it! Irfi Qureshi is now a proud father of a daughter Aliya (CGA 2014). He recently received a Fulbright scholarship to study Arabic and has since moved to Jordan. Christa Beezhold Thornton and her husband Tom are parents of Jacob Isaiah (CMA 2014), who was born in October. Teresa Fleming-Brown and her husband Andrew became parents of Benjamin David (future Captain of Company A?). They live in Peoria, IL.

Classmates on the Move...

Internet sources have recently reported sightings of Cassie Miller and Brent Elkins in the San Francisco area. Amy Adams Brumley just graduated from Naval boot camp and will soon be stationed on the USS Baaton. Tom Holdeman and Amy Cassady were married in June in South Bend and are now living in Indianapolis. Tasha (Ailey) Hanson stepped up to the alter in August and now works as the coordinator of Kankakee Community College's Learning Laboratory. Jim Dicke and his wife, Katy Groen, have moved back to his hometown, New Bremen, OH. Akiko Matsuura is living in Tokyo and may be making a trip to Colorado later this year. Cheryl Vaughn is living in Montana and would love to have you visit. Lara Bethke spent the summer kicking back in Cartegena, Colombia. Hope Isaac is in NYC working with David Letterman (will he be coming back with you for our 10th year?). The grapevine has reported that Pete Lax is signing signing top bands in NYC (Pete: See 'Kip' above!). On a related note (no pun intended!), Diane Ferguson and her band, Plaid Descent, have been making quite an impact in the Indianapolis area.

Internet communcations between class members continues to be entertaining. If you have access to e-mail, send a note to any of us at the addresses below and we'll keep you in the loop. In addition, if you know others who have e-mail addresses, please pass them along. Finally, a Culver Alumni e-mail list of all classes can be found at http://titan.wustl.edu/~dgp/cma/directory/CMA-CGA/.

Once again, our classmates still yearn for information from those of you who have not sent us news lately. In fact, I'm sure some people are having a difficult time finishing this letter only knowing about the 27 people mentioned above. As a result, we're going to start making telephone calls to get in touch with each one of you personally.

We look forward to catching up with you soon.
