Class of 1989 March 25,1997 Dear Classmate,

A few months have passed since the last letter and given the amount of information that has come in recently, a quick letter is required. You’ll also find in this letter some information regarding the memorial fund the class has established in Whitney’s name. First, the scoop...

The internet has kept the barrage of classmate info flowing. Perhaps the most exciting news comes from our San Francisco group which is actively involved in the founding of the San Francisco Culver Club, which was named the Golden Gate Culver Club after a recommendation from Scott Hinshaw. Cassie Miller, Greg Mauldin, Brent Elkins and Steve Bogatinoff often meet for martini night when they aren’t at the Culver meetings with Scott. Away from the bay area, Jim Alcock is stationed in Ft. Hood where he recently graduated from Airborne, Ranger and the Bradley schools and is now a platoon leader. Fletch Gensamer has been working in the advertising field since graduating from Babson College. Jenn Reed, who is now teaching 6th grade math in Boston, was married this past summer on her parents’ farm in Ohio. Chaplain Steffen officiated the ceremony and Amanda Goff was in attendance. Sheila Hamlin and Amy Kern also made a visit to the alter this summer (separately). Stu Holmes is planning a run to the alter. Donna (Cihak) Hansen is in California working in the film industry where she recently worked on the film ‘ The People vs. Larry Flint’. Chip Yates is also in California after spending time in Hong Kong and China. He’s now working for an automobile manufacturer and pursuing an engineering degree. Kathryn Norris is teaching second grade boys at the Buckley School.

Speaking of school...Gavin Bowie is working on a Master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Maryland and living in Washington D.C. Cuong Nguyen is in his 4th year of medical school and preparing to do his residency as a podiatrist at USC. Other class doctors, Ursula Musser and Su Parker, are both preparing for residencies in OB/GYN after graduating from medical schools at Northwestern and IU, respectively. Garrett Tripp is completing his first year of the MBA program at the University of Texas. Kris Baughman is working full time as a school social worker while getting her master’s degree in social work from Indiana University South Bend. Lara Bethke is working on a collection of short stories for her thesis at Colorado State. John Wolcott is finishing school at Nebraska Wesleyan and Cheryl Vaughn is completing a degree in Biology and Environmental Science.

Don’t forget to take a look at the Class of ’89 website which has a plethora of class information and a picture from the reunion. The site is: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~oconnell/ for now.

As you know, the Class has set a goal of 80% participation in the Whitney Chamberlin Memorial Fund. To help accomplish this, nearly a dozen our classmates have volunteered to contact people. The results of their efforts are on the following page. Since you have not yet given, I’d like to ask that you consider a donation - even if you just include a $1 bill in the return envelope. Should you write a check, please make it out to the Culver Annual Fund. In either case, please include a note indicating that it’s in Whitney’s memory.

Finally, please get in touch with me or Culver with your latest news to include in the next letter!

Sincerely, Laura Spatz SPATZL@hayboo.com 210-930-1743 Thank you to the following for either donating or committing to donate to the Culver Annual Fund or the Whitney Chamberlin Memorial Fund (WCMF) already this year: Chris Anderson Isonhood Hyeson Bang (WCMF) Kris Baughman (WCMF) Gavin Bowie (WCMF) Raj Chopra (WCMF) KC DeHuff Brent Elkins (WCMF) Roberto Fernandez (WCMF) Tom Harvey Scott Hinshaw (WCMF) Meredith Horn LeAnn Judd Tom Jones (WCMF) Rogelio Larrinaga (WCMF) Brad Manuel Greg Mauldin (WCMF) Cassie Miller (WCMF) John Neville (WCMF) Mike O’Connell (WCMF) Kathryn Norris Cuong Nguyen (WCMF) Sue Parker Jennifer Reed O’Connell (WCMF) Trevor Riedinger Dana Shehigian Deimel(WCMF) Cary Sole Roger Sommer (WCMF) Laura Spatz (WCMF) Jenifer Stifel Scott Sweeney (WCMF) Garrett Tripp (WCMF) Martin Tyson (WCMF) Mike Wikoff (WCMF) John Wolcott (WCMF) Chip Yates (WCMF) Eric Young (WCMF)
