National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, educational and charitable organization of medical professionals of Arab descent. With 29 chapters across the US and Canada, NAAMA has become a well-known organization throughout the Arab American community. Every year, NAAMA sponsors a national conference and an international conference hosted by a country in the Middle East. This is a great opportunity for medical students to attend talks and presentations, and to form lasting relationships with colleagues all across the country and throughout the Middle East.
NAAMA strongly encourages medical student involvement in its activities and affairs, and has formed medical school chapters that are affiliated with their state’s chapter of NAAMA. In Michigan, Wayne State University School of Medicine and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine have medical student chapters. At the University of Michigan Medical School, we have recently established a medical student chapter of our own, which will serve as a subgroup of MSMD.
Interested students can participate in NAAMA activities and service opportunities, as well as travel to annual conferences. Membership is free for students, and is open to medical, pharmacy, dental, nursing, and pre-medical students. To join, fill out the membership form online.
