About Us

MSMD has three main goals:

- to raise awareness of Middle-Eastern health among the medical community

- to increase medical access for Middle-Easterners living in the United States and the Middle East

- to increase the opportunities in the medical field for students of Middle-Eastern Descent.

Our History

Medical Students of Middle-Eastern Descent (MSMD) was founded in November 2004 by three M1s (Wajd Al-Holou, Kevin Hannawa, and Oscar Lahoud), with the help of two faculty advisors (Dr. Ameed Raoof and Dr. Maya Hammoud), in order to obtain a better representation of Middle-Easterners within the medical community.  Three years later, MSMD has become a well-known, established student organization at the University of Michigan Medical School.
