Even More Preparations

Modeling is 50% casting and 50% painting. That means that it doesn't matter how gorgeous a model is, if the paint job sucks, the model will suck, and vice versa. So here you go, more preps towards a professional model!

soft 99

For this particular model, skipping the primer is not an option. As it is a plastic based model, paint doesn't like to stick right away, so to get even the thinnest layer, you'd have to glunk paint on (READ: CRAP MODEL). But the primer makes the real paint stick much much better, and that means, smooth and very professional looking models

Be extra Anal

get a life!

Check and double check the model. It will take most primed models up to one hour to dry completely with 0% chance of getting your thumb prints on it. If you do happen to be the impulsive impatient type, you can remedy your predicament by used a 1000/1200 type sanding paper to smooth off the prints. The same process can be used to smooth away drippy primer marks

Polish it up with Compound

wax on and off

You can now take a substance called "compound" to polish the model with. Be careful not to rub too hard or you'll rub the face of the model right off or make someone bald. Otherwise, polish away. The compound used here is a paste form called, "Micro Compound." It is manufactured by Holt-Contol (sp?)

You can never be too Anal

brush flakes off

What the micro compound does is to make the model surface almost feel like glass, and eliminates future dirt and stray crap from getting on the model's surface. For now though, go ahead and brush off whatever's on their now (and say good bye eternally.) You can use a soft cloth or a 2000 type sanding paper to do this. In the picture, we are using a shortened everyday brush. You can even use a toothbrush to do this
