The Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation (ACCT), is one of the first and only inter-governmental organizations of French-speaking countries. At the moment, it has brought together 46 countries and governments for the purpose of French unity. Their vision is to unite all the francophone countries in the world in order to create one dialogue of French to be spoken worldwide. This is a very moving and inspirational idea that will get rid of French Creole, patois, Quebecois, and other dialects of French that may cause confusion or miscommunication. This will enable anyone learning French to be able to speak with others in French speaking countries and have the same sentence structure and understandings. From a grammatical view point as a French teacher, this is really interesting, but from a cultural and political perspective, it may be the beginnings of world harmony and unity.

This map is taken from one of the general conferences held in Bamako-Mali in which they elect their general secretariat who runs the ACCT. Elections are held every four years. Attending the conferences were:

*Most ACCT members are countries with French as their official language, or that have a fairly sizeable population of French speakers.

The ACCT works towards multilateral cooperation through education and training, culture and communication, the right for democracy, and so forth. They also take cooperatif actions with international organizations such as the African Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The organization first began 25 years ago on March 20th, 1970 in Niamey-Nigeria. For more information, visit their home page at:
