I've gotten to visit Oahu years before, and on my 2002 Round the World trip I included Maui and Kauai on my itinerary.

Each Hawaiian Island has beautiful & unique characteristics. Maui, for example, has black sand on one beach, red sand on another.

I tried to get up to the edge of the Maui volcano crater but made it only as the sun was going down. I think these people were up here at sundown for watching the stars.

But my camera doesn't take photos of the stars so I settled for snapping a photo of the island of Maui from the crater edge.

This is Diamond Head, next to Waikiki on Oahu. The crater is pretty unmistakable, once you see it. I got a photo from the air as I was traveling between Maui and Kauai.

Kauai has a Grand Canyon of sorts. I wish I could've gotten to hike into here.
