A return trip to Greece

I was back in Greece for New Years, 2002. This was when the European currencies were withdrawn and out came the shiny new Euros. I spent a week or two driving all around Greece (which was quite an adventure... I'm used to taking the bus or train wherever I go). Here is a typical view that I saw from my car window:

I first visited places I have been to before, such as Delphi, where I had been many years before:

And down the road I arrived back in Meteora. An awe inspiring collection of pinnacles of rocks topped with monestaries. I am always impressed with people who devote their lives to their faith. Especially faith that I fundamentally agree with.

I also met a cat on top of one of the rocks...

I also discovered a bunch of new places. Driving west from Meteora, over a mountain and through a nasty snowstorm, I came to a gorgeous little Greek Alpine village called Metsovo.

The ancient Mycean tomb and lions (which can probably be found in countless art history books).

Most Greek cities are full of blocks and blocks of industrial, boxy buildings. But at the end of this trip, I finally discovered a picturesque, maybe-even-European style Greek city: Napfoli.
