Notes: The great bells of the English churches are usually given nicknames. "Tom" is the name of the great bell of Oxford's Christ Church, and the bell tower is often called "Tom Tower".
The tin can was not invented until the time of Napoleon. (It was invented as a means of preserving his army's rations.) Before that, the word meant "a container", usually a drinking vessel of some kind.
