20 May 2009 Updated "suggested texts" info

My 2¢ on where you spend your $. I think every med student needs a “decent” basic pharmacology text to supplement lectures and to serve as some sort of reference in the remaining years of med school. Here are my personal recommendations (opinions). And finally...

(©2007). The 12th edition... of McGraw-Hill's USMLE Pre-Test Self-Assessment & Review: Pharmacology... 500 questions, hundreds of new ones not found in the 11th edition; thorough explanations of right and wrong answers, all cross-referenced to three popular medical pharmacology texts, and written by... yours truly. NOTE: the 13th edition is due for publication in April 2010.

Some questions focus on a particular drug class or system. Many others are integrated across drug classes and systems, helping you to connect material that needs to be viewed, and learned, in that broader context. Just what you'll need to do soon.

What reviewers have said (from Amazon.com, where all the reviewers gave the book a 5* rating): "...if you just want to review your knowledge of antineoplastics, you can do so with this book. This alone makes it much better than the various QBanks that are available. After each group of questions there are many pages devoted to the answers. All of the correct and incorrect answers are explained in detail. If you are preparing for pharm I highly recommend this book to test yourself on what you are learning. It helps you find your weak points and enables you to crush them. It's a smallish book so you can throw it in your bag to test yourself whenever you have free time. The biggest downside to this book is that I didn't get it last year..."
