Let's say you have a graph made in Excel which you have slaved over, and are now faced with further manipulating it in a graphics software.
Here, in a nutshell, are the steps:
1) Print the file to disc. This will leave you with a Postscript or Postscript-like file.
2) Using Acrobat Distiller or Acrobat Professional, convert the postscript file to a pdf.
3) Open pdf file with Illustrator. From here you can turn it into pretty much anything you'd like to.
You may be tempted to "save as pdf" from the Excel file. Here's a hint: Don't.
