October 4-5, 2003

It's
been an unusually cold week. The weekend was
a bit warmer so I opened the garage up and
got on with the outer hull laminations. Also
got a start shaping the block bodies. If I'm
going to keep up the pace over the winter,
I'll have to get a big kerosene or propane
heater. The wall-mounted gas heater I've got
is too close to the side of the hull to use
safely.

Couldn't get as much done as I'd wanted to this weekend-wedding to go to. But did get one full day into the project. The sides are laminated to their full thickness, and the bottom about half done. I've started to remove the redundant mold frames where the boat is fully laminated. The shape should hold just fine with the epoxy set and the temprorary cross-braces in place. Makes it a lot easier to get around the project without all those props sticking out.

Busy weekend on all fronts. Got the storm windows on the house-thankfully those door-sized brutes don't go on the second floor. Finished the hull laminations at last. Pulled all the temporary drywall screws and drove a bronze nail slathered with epoxy into each hole. The best guess is that right now there are about 2000 fasteners in the hull. Removed al lthe temporary molds except for the one that serves to close the garage door off. Now you can get a good idea what the hull will look like when turned over. Started coating the block bodies with UV resistant epoxy.
