Copper Harbor, Michigan was my family's summer destination for most of my young life. This old cemetery is just outside of town, tucked under a high bluff. Most of the markers were wood, and the climate had worn them and covered them with lichen. It was a very special place for me-still and somewhat surreal. These photos were taken about 1977. A few years later the community decided to clean the place up-straightening the markers and clearing the underbrush. I always felt it ruined the atmosphere.
