This is another of the many small artifacts I have of my father. I know he re-handled it sometime in the 1950s-and the sheath is his work as well, meant to hang form an old-style military web belt. For me this is the height of small hatchet design. Modern composite handles and alloys may perform better-stay sharp longer-be moisture and shock-proff, but this Hudson Bay hatchet with the sheep's-foot handle is a bout as efficient small wood cutting toll as you will find anywhere.
