Lucina, eighth and twin daughter of John and Margaret Winkler, was
born May 17, 1049. Married Nathan William Spear, January 19, 1871.
Mr. Spear was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, July 18, 1851.

Mr. Spear is a farmer, lived and raised a family in Wayne County, Ohio, and they now live at Weilersville, Wayne County, Ohio.

Lucina is a kind, bright, pleasant and good woman, a loving, intelligent wife and mother, an honor to her relatives and the community in which she lives.

The following is added by Arlene (Kurtz) Bauss, a granddaughter of Lucina Winkler) Spear and Nathan William Spear.

I am the fifth daughter of Bertha Elmira (Winkler) Kurtz and John Hartzler Kurtz. My mother was the fifth child in her family.

I visited grandfather and grandmother Spear on only two occasions, both after they had given up farming and lived in Smithville, Ohio in a pleasant home.

Grandmother was small in stature and a busy little body, while grandfather was in my eyes, a most handsome man, being tall, perhaps six feet or more, with a slender large frame. He had deep set, twinkling hazel or blue eyes. Hs hair was white and he had the most remarkable beautiful white wavy beard, reaching midchest in length. I remember him as a gentle, kind and gracious man who took many walks with me holding my hand when I was about seven years old, and enjoyed having me do little things for him when I was sixteen. I recall pouring coffee at dinner for him and giving him a quick kiss on his forehead.
He put an arm around me, and said, "Every grandfather should have such a loving and thoughtful granddaughter like you. "Bless you, dear".
