This mudroom has been languishing partly completed for about two years. Part of the reason is that it sits under what was one of the largest roof leaks we had. With that leak fixed, I can get back to work.

Aside from being a mud room, this area helps keep the mess from the workshop out of the house. At the same time, the kitchen door is the only way to get appliances in or out of the house, so I needed to keep a direct route available. My solution was to build this coat closet with a removable back. Large or long items can be passed through it from the garage. It also has two hinged hatches for access to the recycling bins below.

Every surface but for the floor is primed. The ceiling is done. For the past few days I've been working in high heat and humidity-which is not improved when you add the moisture from all that paint to a small space. Today, things are much better. A week or so should see this room finished.

We managed to get the walls painted, and the trim has its first coat.

The room is essentially complete. A little touch-up painting and a good floor cleaning left to do.
