The old coal bin was a largely useless space. Because the porch overhead leaked, it was always damp. There was a single bare-bulb fixture perfectly situated for slicing the scalp of anyone even approaching adult height, and a rough concrete floor. Plumbing passed through it and dust and dirt rained down from the ancient deck.
A few years ago I fixed the porch problems. The coal bin stayed on the back burner while I worked on other rooms and my boat. This winter I went back and turned the coal bin into storage space. If you want to know what it looked like to start with, see the porch renovation.
