Shifted
Background
Shifted (originally entitled "Slide") is the product of watching my cousin Dan spend hours upon hours trying
to solve a Rubix Cube while at the beach in August 2006. I thought a computerized version of the classic
puzzle would be fun to make and might interest a broader crowd than some of my other games. It was my intention
to include a 2-D version of the puzzle, and a classic 3-D mode that accurately follows the original mechanics of
the puzzle. The 3-D version has since been detatched from the 2-D version of the game.
I started programming the game in December 2007, although I had layed out the levels and come up with the mechanics
of the game between September and November of 2007. I have once again followed my trend of completing the vast majority
of a game and then not working on the touch ups for a long time. A playable version of Shifted has been available since
around the end of January 2008, but a few additions and bugs kept me from posting it. I finally started working on Shifted
again recently and finished off all of the last little details in about a week.
Game Description
The object of Shifted is to return a scrambled set of squares to their original form. There are six modes:
standard, timed, puzzle, picture, picture-puzzle, and quest. There are also six difficulty levels. Blocks are
moved left/right/up/down by clicking the arrow at the end of that row/column. Blocks are shifted in sets of 5
and blocks end-wrap.
A 2-D unfolding of a 3-D Rubix cube is also available, but as a separate application (Shifted Classic). Blocks
are shifted in rows/columns by clicking arrows. Shifted Classic is significantly more difficult than Shifted is.
