Fight of the Kraken
Background
I wouldn't really consider this game a SCG game, but since I worked on it, I included it on the site.
The University of Michigan has a software development club called WolverineSoft and every year they
hold a 48 hour game development contest. Fight of the Kraken was my group's entry in the February 2007
contest. My group consisted of Dale White, Warren Bame, and myself. Dale and I split the programming
during the contest and Warren did most of the art work. 48 hours after the start of the contest, the
games were judged by the rest of the contestants and 4 official judges (professors from several
universities). Our game took 4th place out of 8 teams.
In the month or so following the contest Dale and I worked on fixing a lot of the bugs that weren't
resolved before the contest ended. After that Dale continued to work on the game, but I did not. He
added a point system, a high score list, several difficulty levels, etc. He did a lot of the post-contest
work, and he deserves most of the credit for the finished product.
Game Description
In Fight of the Kraken, you control a giant squid that is trying to escape from a secret laboratory.
Along the way you will need to fight off evil scuba divers, rouge jellyfish, killer sharks, and the
biggest seahorse you've ever seen. Your ultimate goal is to escape to the bottom of the ocean and live
in peace.
Kraken is similar to a button mashing side-scroller. The arrow keys are used to control the squid's
movement. You have the ability to attack enemies and eat small fish to gain health. Running into an
enemy without attacking causes you to lose health, and boss enemies have the ability to attack you as well.

Download
Fight of the Kraken is available for download through the WolverineSoft website. Its page can be found
here
Note: This game is much larger than any of my games because it was written in a c++ engin that has a lot
of stuff that wasn't used by our game. Additionally in order to run the game you need DX9 framework?
