Adults Sustaining a Spinal Cord Injury

Social workers who deal with individuals who have sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI) should have a basic understanding of what that means in terms of loss of function and sensation. One source of basic information is provided by the National Spinal Cord Association (NSCA) and is called Spinal Cord Injury 101. This is a good resource for patient and families as well.

Patients and families may have many questions to ask or may not know what questions to ask. A good educational handout "Acute Spinal Cord Injury" covers some of this information. It is available through the NSCA but is somewhat difficult to find so I have included a link to a .pdf file.
