BIBLIOTHERAPY

Bibliotherapy is the use of written material in the form of books or manuals that assist the reader to understand a specific illness or syndrome and/or suggests cognitive (thinking about or thinking processess to use) or behavioral (activities or behaviors to use) means of dealing with the illness or syndrome.

Mental health workers, self-help groups and doctors have been recommending self-help books for some period of time but there is relatively little research data available on efficacy.

The following is a list of books or manuals that are in use. Where there is data or references available about efficacy, it will be noted.
