AUSTRALIA HOME

 Northern Territory - 8 May to 11 May 2000

Darwin feels like it is at the end of the earth. The flight from Sydney was almost 5 hours long. We arrived at the beginning of the Dry season, but that did not stop it from raining two out of three days that we were there. The locals didn't use air conditioning, even though it never got cooler than 75 degrees at night, because it was winter. The highlight of our visit was a trip to Litchfield National Park. We saw several waterfalls, some termite mounds, and a goanna. We swam in the plunge pool of one of the falls, but had to skip the other because they pulled a crocodile out of the water the week before. Back in Darwin, I got to know the Darwin City district pretty well - I visited all three Internet cafes and probably walked up and down the main street twenty or thirty times. We were all ready to leave for Brisbane after three days.
