Simon Craig Vodosek
5/17/1997 - 8/6/2004

Simon Simon Craig Vodosek, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, classmate, student, and friend, died at home in the arms of his parents on August 6, 2004 after a 3-year struggle with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.

Born May 17, 1997 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Simon moved with his family to Salt Lake City in 2003. He completed kindergarten at the Ann Arbor Open School and first grade at Uintah Elementary in Salt Lake City.

Simon is survived by his mother, Mary Craig; father, Markus Vodosek; sister, Miriam Craig Vodosek; grandparents Ann and Norman Craig of Oberlin, Ohio and Irmgard and Peter Vodosek of Stuttgart, Germany; great-grandmother Marianne Vodosek of Linz, Austria; aunts Julie Craig Lautens, Christina Vodosek, and Jocelyn Sisson; uncles David Craig and Mark Lautens; cousins Margot and Nathan Lautens, Claudia and Eliza Craig; and extended family in the United States and Europe in the Williams, Tabbutt, Vodosek, Stepanek, and Pammer families.

In spite of the pain and treatment related to his illness, Simon lived a full and joyous life, touching many people and places in his brief 7 years. He received loving, expert medical care in Ann Arbor, New York City, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.

A memorial service (all ages welcome) will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City (569 S 1300 E). Pre-service activities for children will begin at 10 a.m.

To honor Simon's beautiful spirit, the family has established the Simon Craig Vodosek Memorial Fund. For further information, please visit www.simonsplace.org.
