  • Hello,

Since Liz asked about the kitties, I thought I'd describe how I just saw them. Markus and I watched a DVD (Mona Lisa Smile--it was OK). Sam and Simon-the-Cat sat between us and on Markus' lap (I was knitting). The cats began an extravagant licking festival. They often blend into each other so that it's hard to tell whose licking whom. I left them lying on the sofa, all snuggled together like one body. I think Sam was still licking Simon's brow. Anyway, those two were in the womb together, and they make a fine, comforting pair now.

It is lovely to be able to pet soft, beautiful, grateful kitties!

  • Hi to all! How are those kitties of yours? Ours made themselves a cat door in our back screen - very convenient for them &amp the mosquitoes!
We have a gorgeous, sunny day here after way too much rain lately, so we'll be outside planting, skateboarding, and seeing neighbors who've also been hiding out from the weather!
We're sending our best wishes that the tests &amp results are the best they can be!

  • all,

Glad to hear that life is in somewhat of a normal mode. First grade really is a wonder isn't it. I can see why people like to teach it. So glad to hear all the strides Simon has made this year even with missing some school. Sometimes it seems as an observer the learning happens by osmosis. Rowan has really been picking up so much more on his reading. It takes so much to do it, it's amazing we are that capable. Makes one appeciate the power of the brain. It's nice to be able to picture you all in your great house there. We're off to Laguna for Memorial Day and will be meeting Yampa and Yamma there, so there is some major excitment in our household. Hugs and Kisses to you four. Sounds like David and Joycelyn may be coming there on their way west. We look forward to seeing your cousins in a few weeks.

    Love, annette, steve and rowan

  • Hi Simon!

A belated Happy Birthday from all of us to you!!

It sounds as if things are going well these days. I hope you enjoy your last couple of weeks of first grade. I bet Utah is particularly gorgeous at this time of year.

It was very special for our entire family to see you and your sister and parents (and grandparents!) in Oberlin a couple of weeks ago. Schuyler was most impressed with your Yu-gi-oh skills!

We're sending lots of love to you all,
    Rebecca and crew

  • Yo Simon. It was very nice to visit you when I was in Ann Arbor. You are bigger now than when we were in Sunday school together. Miriam is bigger too. I enjoyed playing games and reading and hanging out, but you are just too good at Nintendo for me. Especially when you steal my eggs. I am going to get a Nintendo game so I can practice up for our next visit. That way at least I will have half of a chance of beating you. If you come to Ann Arbor again please let me know so we can visit. It was nice to visit with your mom and dad. It was the most time I had been with your dad. He is a very nice man. You are fortunate to have each other.
    Love Quentin.

  • Happy Birthday!!! Wow -- 7 is very mature. You can read and write and do lots of cool stuff for yourself. Laura's looking forward to her birthday next month, so she can be 7, too!

Glad to hear the terrific news on pain and counts -- keep up the good work. I've heard chocolate cake -- especially the kind from the Silver Palate people -- can be very beneficial, healthwise! ;-)

Danny's birthday is tomorrow -- he's going to have chocolate cake, too, only his comes from a "secret" (Pennsylvania Dutch) family recipe. Chocolate is terrific in all kinds of recipes, isn't it!?

Have a great day and a great year! Love,

I am so happy that Simon is feeling better. Also, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Simon. I remember bringing you a meal when Simon was first born and bringing my baby, Anthony along. Now our boys are 7 and 8 years old. Hard to believe.
Good to hear that Simon is back in school and off the pain pump. Simon, you are such a strong and brave little boy. If anyone can beat this cancer, YOU CAN!
Wish we could see you again. Utah seems so very far away. I didn't know you were in town recently, but if you come again, let us know. My health thoughts and wishes go out to you and the whole family.

    Love,

We know that you have been going through a lot of things lately, but want you to know that we think of you often and are both very happy that you are feeling much better today. I also want you to know just how lucky you are to have such wonderful parents that really care for you and know in their hearts that they 7 year old son is going to get through this situation and be able to run around the bases of life in good shape. We miss all of you here but want you to know that we look forward to seeing you again even though you are way out there in Utah.

  • Cool -- back to school in time to see the beans sprouting! Laura once planted a kernel of popping corn near the inside edge of a clear plastic cup and watched the roots grow there, too -- growing stuff is very amazing, isn't it?

Glad to hear you're not needing the pain pump at the moment -- nice when you can be unhooked, I'll bet! Hope the next round of treatment has you feeling even better still.

No clue who the person is in the baseball cap, but I'm guessing you're watching Yu-Gi and his friends on the tube -- I've seen that look on my own kids before, and it generally *hasn't* come with any discussions about the stock market.... ;-)

    Enjoy spring!

    Love, Kris and family

Thanks for posting your picture with Mike. It looks to me Simon, like you need to clue him in that he's missing some very important part of the YU-GI-OH show. He needs to be quiet and stop disagreeing with you!

  • This week's news is good news - Way to go, Simon! We are guessing (and boy, is that the right word, as we really do not have a clue) the person in the picture is your minister, Tom Goldsmith. It is very tempting to think that Tom (?) and Simon are discussing the stock market while watching Miriam dance, but the couch in the background strongly suggests a Yu-Gi-Oh viewing. Therefore (naturally), we are guessing (d), disagreeing about a plan to go outside. One thing for sure - this test is more fun that 1st grade standardized testing!

  • I'm so glad to hear that you're feeling a bit more like your old self again, Simon -- the twinkle is back, the chasing of the little sister is back, going to school sounds as though it's coming back, too.... Good going!

And in the meantime, Miriam's had time to make a beautiful necklace, Mary's had time to celebrate Mother's Day and dig in the garden, and it sounds as though Markus has even had time for his graduation ceremonies -- congrats!

Rob and I are getting ready for a trip to England to meet the Queen (just kidding!) and hear some barbershop singing (that part's true!). I think before I go, though, I'm going to pull out one or two of our A.A. Milne books and brush up on some of his poems, which my mother always used to read aloud to my sisters and me with a slightly British accent (so that's how we've read them to our kids, too!). I especially like the ones about James James Morrison Morrison and the king who only wants a little bit of butter for his bread. Do you know those? They're either from "When We Were Very Young" or "Now We are Six" -- I can't remember which. But you might enjoy them, too, if you don't know them already....

In the meantime, you have all our best wishes. Love, Kris, etc.

  • Hello to all. I'm not sure if you remember us, but we were in Music for Little Folks with you back in A2. We are Dannille, Tryn (3 weeks younger than Simon) and Liam (4). Mary, you lent me your maternity clothes when I was pregnant with Liam. Anyway, we have been following Simon's story for about 2 years now. I have never sent you a message because I wanted so badly to help but didn't know how! When you moved to Utah, my mother (who is very active in her church) was going to give me names of folks out there who could help you....but I'm a procrastinator and you are certainly not....so you hooked yourself up with lots of great people before I got to it! Anyway, just wanted to let you know that people all over are thinking about and praying for you, even if you aren't aware. I have hooked up with a woman from the Children's Neiroblastoma Foundation and I will be selling my crafts (hemp necklaces, mainly) anywhere I can and donating everything to the foundation. Tryn wants to sell the jewelery she has made as well. We will keep you updated with our progress.........
We continue to keep you in our prayers.
