  • Hi Simon
I had SO MUCH fun with you last week! I know it's been a while since I had last seen you, but you really impressed me with how SMART you are - and now that I've had a chance to read your Simon Says page, well I"m rather overwhelmed! I'm so glad your Mom showed me this web site - Now that I know where to find you I will check it often! I hope you are feeling okay after your chemo and although I'll be out of town next week and unable to check your site, I will be thinking and praying for you. You have lots and lots of love coming your way! Say hi to your sister for me :)

  • Dear Simon,
I have not written for a while, but I constantly pray for you.
I work at Family Housing, which is very close to you house. I talked to Carla, your "Community Aid", and she told me that you are neighbors. Carla and her husband are from Brazil, and so am I. Carla said that she will take me to visit you one of these days. May I? I would love to!
Simon, I am sending your web site to Brazil. I hope they will send you messages besides praying for you.
I will ask my Brazilian friends to mentalize your Neuroblastoma melting and dissolving like sugar in water.
Have a nice sleep, have sweet dreams, and wake up tomorrow full or energy and
    faith in God's healing power.
    Love,
    Tatiana

  • Simon, I had to laugh when I saw the photo of you throwing rocks at the Detroit Zoo. Giving the chance to do anything he wanted, ever, my son Kirk would pick throwing rocks every time. He especially likes to throw them into water. His grandparents live on a lake and I think one of these days he is going to fill the lake up completely!

Wishing for warm weather so Simon can get out to the play ground, it seems like you have had many adventures. So take care and know we are thinking of you. Love to all

It was SO nice to see both of you today. Thank you for inviting me to come check out the pediatric infusion room. My favorite part was the glass ceiling, where you could look out and see the sky!

My second favorite part was watching Simon draw. You are right Simon, you are an excellent artist!

    Take care,

  • I thought I would share a wonderfully fun interaction Simon and I had last night in our backyard here at Family Housing. Simon had been plucking flowers off bushes and managed to find a ladybug to enjoy. He brought it over to share with everyone, and then said. . .

Simon: Whenever I pick up ladybugs they pee on me (giggling).

Me: Why do you think they do that?

Simon: They must think I'm a toilet!

  • Hi guys! Sounds like you've been busy but good that Simon's been feeling pretty well. We are enjoying some spring weather here, finally! No 80 degree days here, though!
Tomorrow is Sarah's birthday so I'm busy tonight making cupcakes and wrapping presents. It'll be a fun day. You have a birthday pretty soon, too, Simon! Yay!
Well, as always, I'm sending lots and lots of LOVE from all of us.

Alma and Serena had their Easter egg hunt in France, at Emily, Eric and Noah's house. The three kids each had a section of the yard for looking. Boy did they find a lot of chocolate! Wishing you all the best! Love, Julia, Christoph, Serena & Alma

  • Hi Simon and Miriam!!
My name is Jen and I was lucky to meet the two of you one day at Zingerman's while you were chomping on some good bread! I just love the website you have, especially all of the really cool pictures you have posted. I went to the animal websites too and I decided that I have a new favorite animal: the spotted hyena! I wonder if you saw any at the zoo yesterday...
Anywho, I'm really glad I was able to meet the two of you. I'm a teacher and I told my students all about you, so hopefully they will visit your website soon too! In the meantime,
    I'll be thinking about you...
    Jen
ps. simon, do you know where I can find such a cool pair of super duper flashy shoes like yours?

  • Hi, Simon! My name is Irene and I am a kind of "far away aunt" from you and Miriam. Your Grandma is my – I don't know the expression in English – "Firmpatin" and I even was babysitting your Dad, when he was about two years old.
I'm living in the town where your greatgrandmother, the Mum of your Stuttgart Grandfather is living.
This city is called Linz and lies on a river called "The Danube".
Three weeks ago the river was in flood. In front of my house (it has four floors and I live in the 4th one) it was like living nearby the seaside with big waves and doves all around.
Some Ducks have been swimming on the soccer-ground and I think Father Duck was really Offside all the time. He certainly has to get the "red card" for breaking all rules.
Even the Halfpipe for the Skaters has been flooded, so the boys and girls better went windsurfing than skating.
Dear Simon! I send you lots of good energy and good hopes.
    Irene

  • Hello Simon,

The recent Simon Says entry "The Smell of Breakfast Wafting Up the Stairs" it reminded me of my daughter's favorite poem when she was a little girl. The poem is taken from the book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends" by Shel Silverstein. Maybe you have have this book or you can just imagine the illustration of a gigantic stack of pancakes. Here is the poem:

"Who wants a pancake sweet and piping hot?
Good little Grace looks up and says, "I'll take the one on top."
Who else wants a pancake fresh off the griddle?
Terrible Theresa smiles and says, "I'll take the one in the middle."

I bet you and Miriam are like Good little Grace. Am I correct?

Hugs for you, Miriam and Mom and Dad.

  • Simon, Good to hear it's been a busy week for you. Sorry to hear Miriam has been sick. Wish we could help with the laundry, not that I'm all that caught up on my own. :) We been putting together a photo album for prospective birth mothers so that they can know something about us and potentially choose us to adopt her child and you and Miriam are featured at Crystal Lake. Who wouldn't want their child to get to spend Summers at Crystal Lake. I think Steve has posted a scan of the album on our web site. I'll post the address if I can locate it. http://home.pacbell.net/tikakofi

    Mary, Markus,
I really enjoyed the Hope sermon you attached under the Cancer Link page. That was a very thoughtful piece of work and puts into perspective what Hope really is. I think the most amazing depiction of HOPE I've ever seen was from the Human Rights workers in El Salvador in the early 90's when Liddy was living and working there. I couldn't believe that these people could hold onto their hope after what they had been through, killings in their immediate families and even after experiencing that putting themselves in potential harms way by working in these human rights organizations taking down first hand accounts of atrocities and for which they were often targeted for further terror. They were some of the most grounded people I've ever met. They understood hope in ways I couldn't imagine. Thanks for sharing that sermon
with us. I had been wondering how the bulb garden was doing - nice to hear the update on the daffodils. Too bad you don't have spell check on here I'm such an addict. Think of you all often. Thanks again for all the work on the updates. It means a lot to us.

    Love, Annette

  • Dear Simon, Mary, Markus and Miriam,

I visited Simon's Place today for the first time in a long time and was so touched to see the impact that you are having on so many people near and far. It is wonderful that this tool is allowing you to give and receive so much love from around the world. Simon's Place reminds me of a beautiful patchwork quilt. Each word carefully stitched to hold together bright and unique pieces of fabric - the fabric of life. My prayer is that this quilt made with so many loving hands will serve to keep all of you safe, warm and protected.

  • Hi Simon ( and Miriam, and all the others at your house) I've been catching up on all the famous SIMON SAYINGS and feel tongue-tied next to you! What a lot of ways you have to express your feelings....it's really good that you can talk with everyone. What's this game about catching BUGS? I have BUGDOM on my iMac which I play when I get frustrated sometimes... when doing my income tax, for example. Little guys try to get through the forest while HUGE slugs and fire ants get in the way. Hope you continue to feel like doing the exciting things I just read about. Love your website. Love to all, Jane

  • Susan is right--traffic on the Message Board has slowed. But that's OK! We love hearing from you, but you're always welcome to visit with or without leaving a message. I've just checked the Web statistics on this site for March. The list of requestors is very long--we can tell there are a lot of folks out there! It appears that Simon's site was visited 1400 times in the month of March. Amazing!

    Thanks for staying with us!

Your messages seem to be slower this week, so I'll send one. I've been enjoying your bright colors and messages on your web site ever since it started. I was glad to meet you on your walk to the toy store several weeks ago and in the library last week. It was good to see you feeling so lively the second time. I hope you and Miriam are having fun.

We also saw and played with Aunt Betty, Uncle Fred, Mark, Denise and your other second cousins Nick, Sam and Owen. We talked and laughed about lots of things and when we talked about you and your family we all smiled because we love you guys all so much.
Way to go Miriam! Peeing in the potty is big stuff!!

  • My Dear Simon: I remember when I was pregnant of Ivan, and All of us were wonder whose our baby was going to look like. You know Jay, Ivan's daddy, blond and blue eyes. You know me, dark eyes and hair. So Jay told me once: "our baby is going to look like Simon". I remember that I felt so happy with his thought because I like you very, very much Simon, and I think that you are a beautiful baby! Since that moment I hoped that Jay's wishes were becoming true. To our happiness, Ivan has a beautiful brown eyes, a brown light hair and a magic charming smile just like yours!! I hope that Ivan will have also, a beautiful heart and strong personality as yours. There is one thing for sure: Mary, Mark, Jay and I share the pride for having such wonderful sons! I love you baby. Dino.

We were reading about how you love your Lemon bath. We have never taken a lemon bath but, we do love baths for sure! "we like the fizzy ball things that go fizz and then disappear in the water some are blue and some are red" says Lexi. "I like to blow bubbles in the bath" says Madi "we play with pots and pans too".
We are on our way to bathtime right now and are going to sqeeze some lemon juice in the tub and close our eyes and pretend you and Miriam are with us in the tub tonight.
We love you all very much and continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

I read your new treatment plan and it sounds like a winner! Looks like your mom, dad and doctors are making good choices for you. On Easter, we took Sarah and Amy to the beach by our house & they played. We also played in the garden and picked carrots, salad greens, spinach, and spices for our Easter dinner. We are all very excited for Spring and Summer. I've been learning to sail like your Grandpa Norm, but last time we went we tipped the boat over - brrrrr! All my love. Jim Olson

I love reading about all the things you say. They must have named that game "Simon says" after you because you are so wise. We saw the picture of your family celebrating your dad's job offer but no one has told us what the job is or where it is. Will he be a garbage collector in timbucktoo or a dancer in Las Vegas or a boatman on the Colorado River or a berry picker in Chile. What do you think he should do? We love you and yearn for your recovery. XXXOOO Annette, Steve and Rowan

    Hi Simon:

My name is Jenni. I am Maddie and Lexi's aunt. Lawrie is my sister. I visited your web site today. I read the story by Sally Olson about the bird. It was wonderful. I am home with my children Megan and Ryan. Ryan stayed home from school today because he did not feel well. Ryan is almost 8 and Megan is 4. Ryan worked on his dinosaur project about Velociraptors. Do you like dinosaurs? They also watched the movie Beethoven,s 2nd. It is about Saint Bernard and its puppies. It was very cute and funny. Do you like dogs? Well, I hope you have a good day and even though we are all the way up in Maine we are on your team and will fight and punch out those cancer cells with you!!!

    Love, Jenni

  • Hey, Simon! Those great foods you're eating sound awesome -- and I liked the description of the cancer-fight dance you've developed. Very cool. Man, those balls don't stand a chance with you on the job -- you're pow-powing them with new medicines, you're pow-powing them with terrific foods, you're pow-powing them with your mind and your body.... Watch out, balls -- Simon and his doctors are gonna make mincemeat out of you! ;-)

If you and your family want to read a bit more about some good foods to eat, check out this web site: http://www.phytopia.com -- the glossary and some of the other pages are very helpful and informative!

Keep on dancing! Love, Kris, Rob, Emily, Danny, and Laura Hopkins
