Mark Conger

I am a Teaching Professor in the Math Department at the University of Michigan. My interests include enumerative combinatorics and discrete probability. I like to write programs as well as do math.

For the last 17 years I have been teaching and developing the Douglass Houghton Scholars Program, which is a workshop for first-year calculus students in the style of the Emerging Scholars Program developed by Uri Treisman at Berkeley and the University of Texas.

For 20 of the last 22 summers I have been an instructor for the Michigan Math and Science Scholars, a summer enrichment program for high school students. In 2010 we built a Digital Chronometer, starting from transistors.

For three years I taught a course in the Summer Bridge Scholars Program aimed at liberal arts students. The goal was to teach some of the great ideas of mathematics without getting bogged down in notation and computation. We used the Heart of Mathematics textbook by Ed Burger and Mike Starbird.
