Character Types:
The original rules for SF&PF character types in ESP #1 are fine for games and series where all the characters start at the same level. But what would the Cinematic Unisystem be without a little variety in character power level? So to fill in that gap a bit, here are the Character types that I use for my Spacefarers and Prairie Folk powered Firefly game. Big Damned Heroes These are the major players and stars of the shows. They’re usually highly trained, highly skilled, and tend to take charge in any sort of dangerous situation. These folks are just the types you want at your side when some posse of pug-uglies throw down with you, in a outer space replay of the O.K. Corral. They also tend to be higher ranked then Crew Members or in some position of authority on the players ship. Examples: James T. Kirk, Malcolm Reynolds, Han Solo, Spike Spiegel
Crew Members These aren’t the faceless red shirts of the series, but they aren’t top billing material either. They usually do one thing very well, a few other things okay, and tend to be sub par at everything else. But like other Cinematic Unisystem White Hats they can be the most fun to play, relying on good roleplaying and drama points to get themselves out of trouble. Also after a few seasons worth of experience points these folks can start edging into Big Damned Hero territory. Examples: Pavel Chekov, Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne, John Crichton, Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV
Spacefarers & Prairie Folk Skill List: These are the standard starting skills for my Spacefarers and Prairie Folk games. Any other important skills are taken care of by Wild Card skills.
