The work, premiered at the 1995 Fringe Festival of Independent Dance Artists in Toronto, is choreographed for two dancers who produce sounds with MIDI chairs in contrast to an underlying sound score.
Time Trials is a collaboration by artist Paul Marquardt, composer Stephen Rush, and choreographer Patricia Plasko.

The MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) chairs were developed and constructed by Paul Marquardt. MIDI note information is sent directly to a digital sampler from the chairs by movement on the seat. Performers can control velocity, pitch bend and select several sets of sounds from the chairs themselves.
