Reference Point is about participation and conscious choice. As the seated participants determine the words assigned to the chair corners, they begin to make choices based on words they want to hear again or word combinations that have a significant relationship. The activity is choice. The parallel is participation in our larger physical context.

The chair is interfaced with a computer which is programmed to play digitally recorded words when the seated participant leans to any of the four corners. The sets of words change periodically. The computer is located remotely, however the speaker is mounted in the chair.
