A beginning...

by Jason Marchant

X PoseDance was created with one purpose in mind, to develop a place accessable to the dance community for the purpose of sharing their ideas about technology.

In retrospect, I find it to be quite a lofty plan for someone more comfortable in a studio rehearsing or on a computer animating with Life Forms than publishing an electronic journal for the web. However, that was the task I set about to accomplish early in 1996. It is important to me that this electronic journal is able to expand and include as many voices as possible from the academic to the independent choreographer. It is a resouce for the dance community and its direction will depend a lot on the feedback I receive.

To give an idea of a direction X PoseDance could journey, I have included a list of goals that I would like to see accomplished. Keep in mind it is an open-ended list ready for more additions and subtractions....

  • an outlet fot interviews with people in the field
  • a place for electronic publication of papers, stories, thoughts....
  • a resource showing dance and technology web sites, addresses, contacts
  • a place for discussion -- send your thoughts via email and I will post them
  • X PoseDance can also showcase work using the web as a venue
  • look for information on conferences, performances & reviews

Welcome to X PoseDance. I would like to say thank you to Thecla Schiphorst, Peter Sparling and Chrys Gee for their patience and thoughtful contributions to this first issue.

cheers,

Jason Marchant.
