George Bozeman wrote in The Tracker, Winter 2010, (the quarterly publication of the Organ Historical Society): It is an enjoyable visit with one of our most distinguished performers and teachers.... Mason plays works by Mozart, Duruflé, Boulanger and Guilmant. She also tells some of her trademark stories. The DVD ... gives a taste of what it must be like to study with such an energetic, knowing and delightful phenomenon.

Testimonials

From composer William Bolcom

This past century has seen an enormous growth in challenging new organ music, and one of the very, very most influential virtuosi and proponents of new organ music alive is Marilyn Mason. She has encouraged so much new music from so many composers, and I especially thank her for her extensive performances and insightful teaching of my own music. She has commissioned several of my most important organ works and has always championed them, and this is precious to a composer -- maybe the work will have a life! But no work has a life without the right performance, and her doing the right performance for me and so many others, long dead and still living, is what makes Marilyn Mason so extremely special.

Mark Hatfield gives his response to Marilyn Mason's performance of the Dupre "Stations."

Marilyn,
It was just wonderful to be with you again and to share some quality private times.  We all had a great meal and a great time at dinner the night you arrived and the Cheeseburger tonight was great fun. I'm so thrilled for the friendship you and Bob Luther share. It means the world to him.

Your program this evening was nothing short of magnificent.  I have heard the Stations performed several times and they have always seemed too long.  Tonight was completely the opposite.  The program moved along and was over almost too soon for me.  You played brilliantly and used the organ extremely well.  The accompanying Powerpoint presentation was well done and added great meaning and depth to the music presented.

You are one amazing, performing legend, my dear.  You still have the magic and tonight it transported us to Calvary.

Happy Easter.
Fondly,
Mark X. (Hatfield)

Another letter from Deb Raffertyust:

Dear Dr. Mason,
I'm writing for several reasons, but primarily to let you know how much I enjoyed the Organ Conference and being in Ann Arbor two weeks ago. It's always very educational as well as theraputic to spend those days - even though they are few - with other organists and organ scholars. Even simply getting a change of scenery is reviving; it's hard to beat Ann Arbor in early October. Ms. Cano returned my conference dinner check to me a few days ago, so I sent it back today with an explanation and my thanks. The dinner was delectable, and I very much enjoyed chatting with Howard Slenk. It was a lovely event.

With warm regards,
Deb Raffertyust

Review from the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Some of the most brilliant organ playing ever heard in the Cleveland area...Marily Mason makes any instrument she plays a thrilling thing to hear.

Review from the Sacramento Bee:

...Every piece was played not only with brilliance but with affection, respect and imagination, taste and vitality.
