Orb
wax, ash, wood
2012

When prompted to venture to an unknown place to explore and create a project based on, I went down the street from my house to a funeral home. I was especially interested in how one deals with death on a daily occurrence. One particularly interesting response I received was that once the body is dead, it is a mere object. To me, a ball is the epitome of an object; a simple sphere does not have character or depth. The orb I created, however, uses ashes of burned material to symbolize human remains. This creates the disagreement in my mind, separating the body from life that once inhabited it.
