Research

My research is motivated by mathematical problems in interfacial motion, image processing, and machine learning. I approach these problems from a variational perspective. Central to my research is threshold dynamics (MBO algorithm), a level set method for simulating curvature motion. The main thrust of my research has focused on obtaining a deeper understanding of threshold dynamics by analyzing related energies. I've then used these results to derive new MBO-style algorithms for use in image processing and machine learning.
