"Football is a hard and demanding business. Both physically and mentally, you have to be strong to make it. Even if you have the skill, if you are not up to it in mind, body and spirit, you will quickly fall by the wayside. Too many young players these days want the trappings of success without having to put in the hours to achieve it. What are you willing to do? What are you willing to sacrifice to become great?"

Ann Arbor Pioneer Men's Soccer Program
Welcome Letter
Welcome to Ann Arbor Pioneer Men's soccer program. Thank you for your interest and I can promise you that we have a very busy and exciting year ahead of us.
I realize that coaching is both a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each child has a motivating and fun, learning experience. We have a wonderful cadre of knowledgeable coaches, a great class of returning players and there are several newcomers who will be counted upon to have an immediate impact on the team. I am also looking forward to meeting many of the new faces to the school and the program. This will prove to be both an exciting as well as anxious time for many of you. Do not be afraid to ask for assistance along the way. We the coaches are here to help. In the meantime, please take the time to look over the website, the dates for summer camp, the summer conditioning calendar and the new tryouts schedule. Also, feel free to email any one of the coaches if you have any questions.
Please continue to monitor the site on a frequent basis, as I anticipate there will be some changes before we begin.
Sincerely,
Coach Lumumba Shabazz

Other notes about the Pioneer Soccer Program
- 1. All band camp athletes will be afforded the opportunity of a tryout before or after they return from Camp.
- Please plan to be back from vacation by August 9th, the official day that tryouts begin. Games will follow about a week later for all teams.
- All Exchange students will be afforded a tryout until August 26th, 2011. No one will be allowed to tryout after that time.
- All athletes who plan on trying out should be FULLY REGISTERED with the athletic office NO LATER than Tuesday August 9th. Coaches will prefer NOT to have to deal with registration issues on the days of tryouts.
- Full registration includes: payment of the $150 District pay to play fee, $30 athletic medical benefit fee, completion of a green emergency card, submission of a recently completed physical on the form provided by the school, and a $100 program fee upon a successful tryout and placement on a team. Some scholarships are available through the athletic office.
- Participation in summer camp is highly encouraged but not deemed mandatory. Participation also does not ensure an automatic placement on a fall team.
- No transportation will be provided for games versus Huron, Skyline and Saline. Parents must provide transportation for those games. Transportation for all games outside of Washtenaw County will be provided for by the District.
- Both the JV and Varsity teams have an active cut policy in place. However, Freshmen players are rarely ever cut and most can be expected to be placed on the team.
- Practices for ALL teams are held daily at Pioneer. The exact times are decided by the coach. There are NO weekend practices except for a varsity team preparing for the playoffs.
