A friend of mine and I happened to disagree on the
overall quality of Sci-Fi movies. I thought they were worse than average,
he thought the opposite. Since quite a number of hours of watching Sci-Fi
was at stake, I decided to gather some user rating data from IMDB.
To my satisfaction, Sci-Fi was the second worst category (horror was #1),
with an weighted average
vote of 5.26 vs. 6.22 (out of 10) for non-Sci-Fi movies. Which isn't to
say that all Sci-Fi movies are bad. As can be seen from the graph,
there are a few excellent Sci-Fi movies, but there are also a lot of bad
ones. Here
